Many couples dream of hearing beautiful music during their church wedding ceremony to add a special atmosphere to the event. The sound of a saxophone will certainly be an interesting choice – unusual and at the same time very elegant. However, it is worth remembering a few important details when planning the music for a church wedding.

Saxophone at a wedding – an innovative idea

Inviting a saxophonist is a decision that will complete the chosen repertoire with a unique sound. Whether the saxophone plays with other instruments or solo – the impression can be unforgettable. The saxophone is quite easy to transport, so it does not generate additional travel costs. It also takes up little space, so it works well in various churches, even those with a tiny choir loft or limited space in front of the presbytery. In small churches, however, you need to be careful that the saxophone is not too loud.

Saxophonists themselves are best placed to judge whether playing in a given place is a good idea. They are also quite open when it comes to repertoire. It is on the saxophone that we can hear our favourite melodies in original arrangements.

Saxophone in church – will it always work?

When deciding to engage a saxophonist for the music at a church wedding, you need to be aware that there may be some difficulties in a given parish. The saxophone may be considered a non-church instrument, and the local parish priest may not welcome the idea of using it during the ceremony. The second reason for reluctance to have a saxophone in church usually concerns the chosen repertoire. If the saxophone is needed to play pop, jazz or other genres that are not really associated with religious tradition, the couple may also be refused permission by the priest.

Repertoire for saxophone at a church wedding

Many beautiful melodies can be played on the saxophone – from arrangements of religious and youth-ministry songs to well-known classical instrumental pieces that often accompany newlyweds on their wedding day. It is important to agree the repertoire in advance between the couple, the instrumentalist and the parish.

At Matt Remay Group we can easily organise the music for your ceremony, which is sure to move both the newlyweds and all the guests. The saxophone will add extraordinary elegance to the ceremony and may surprise everyone with its subtlety.
