Outdoor weddings and receptions are increasingly popular in Poland. No wonder – after all, the summer weather in Poland is usually good and we can enjoy more sunny days. But even in the rain, such a wedding can be extremely romantic and will stay in your guests' memories for a long time.
Every couple dreams of their wedding being original, beautiful and stunning. As we mentioned, one way to have a fairy-tale, extraordinary wedding is to hold it outdoors. The fashion for this type of outdoor event came to Poland from the USA, and recently companies specialising in it have been springing up like mushrooms after rain.
A red carpet in a beautiful garden, in a picturesque meadow, in the courtyard of a fairy-tale castle or right next to a mysterious forest is a dream setting for a civil ceremony. And this is what you have to reckon with – it will only be a civil ceremony. To organise an outdoor wedding, you first need to agree it with the head of the registry office, submit an application to the office responsible for the ceremony location and pay the fees.
If you are planning a church wedding
With a church wedding it is much harder to get around certain rules that the church follows. However, if you really want the ceremony to be held outdoors, talk to the priest and suggest that it could take place in the church garden, which are also beautiful and well kept.
When organising such a wedding, unfortunately you have to reckon with the cost being higher than a traditional reception. This is due to the additional hire of a marquee and special flooring. Venues that host outdoor weddings often offer to move the reception indoors in case of bad weather. What's more, the costs also include sound, a DJ and a host or a band, as well as lighting and decorations.
The easiest option is to find a venue that offers outdoor receptions – this will save time and extra costs, because you will not have to worry about hiring a marquee or flooring. Venues often organise, for example, an outdoor ceremony and the reception indoors.
An outdoor wedding – in a garden or marquee
If, however, you want to organise everything yourself, there are companies that put up beautiful marquees, take care of every detail and lighting, and even set up heaters so that guests do not get cold at night. It is worth remembering, because nights, especially in August and September, can be chilly. The marquees are waterproof, so there is no need to worry about rain. If you are holding the wedding in a venue's garden, be sure to ask whether tables and chairs can be hired. If not, look for a company that does this.
Food is a separate issue. When organising an outdoor wedding, certain conditions must be met for the catering service – including hot and cold water connections and a suitable place for the staff to set up.
Let your guests know
Most importantly, if you decide on an outdoor ceremony and reception, it is worth mentioning it to your guests when handing out the invitations. This will help them choose suitable outfits and bring something warm to wear. Ladies in particular will have time to get suitable footwear (thin stilettos may not be ideal shoes for an outdoor wedding).
Organising an outdoor reception can also be a great opportunity to plan additional attractions such as a fireworks display, fire dancing or even serving some dishes from the grill. Children will be especially delighted with this type of reception – you can organise extra attractions for them, such as hiring an entertainer or providing games in the garden.
