Why a band will not work at every wedding

Some couples are decided from the start and know they want a band at their wedding. Others are convinced that DJ for the wedding is for them. In this text we explain why the first option will not work at every wedding.

Today a wedding band does not mean the same thing to everyone. In the wide range of wedding music options there are typical bands with one or two singers, purely instrumental trios or quartets, and also regional folk bands, without which some people cannot imagine a dance party. Good live music undoubtedly gives such a party a special atmosphere, but it has certain limitations.

Repertoire

A band will certainly play the best-known wedding hits without any problem. But what if our taste is very different from the typical melodies mainly associated with the wedding dance floor? When hiring a band, you have to accept a closed set of available songs, which often appear on playlists titled “wedding music”.

Style

Live music will not always faithfully reflect the original song. You may come across a wedding band that plays almost every melody in the same style. If that suits you, there is no problem at all. But if you are hoping for variety in the wedding music, it can be troublesome.

Price

For some couples this may be the key issue. Working with a band is much more expensive (sometimes even three times more) than working with a good wedding DJ. This is mainly due to the number of people in the band and the fact that live musicians use up more physical energy, so they need longer breaks during the party. 

Space

More people in the band also means a need for more space. This must be taken into account if you have a small wedding venue. Large rooms (with high ceilings), on the other hand, can worsen the acoustics, and the final effect of live music may not be satisfactory. 

Music at a wedding is an important aspect that can make both the couple and their guests remember the night with a smile or with disappointment. That is why the choice between a DJ and a band can be one of the more important decisions during wedding preparations.
