Wedding in the mountains

This time we will look at a rather unusual topic: a wedding in the mountains. More and more couples choose a real highland wedding – with the stomping and wild fun you can only experience in the mountains of Poland.

A wedding in the mountains – where to start?

As usual, organising such a wedding should start with finding that one and only venue. A traditional inn or a charmingly located hotel fits the atmosphere perfectly. One advantage of a hotel is that there are also rooms for guests on site. Hotels that host weddings usually offer rooms at quite affordable prices – as part of the package, so to speak. Of course it all depends on how many guests will stay overnight.

Wedding in the mountains has its own unique atmosphere. It is created above all by the decorations and the beautiful, breathtaking views. The wedding can be held in the Tatra Mountains, the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, the Carpathians or the Sudetes – the choice is huge, and each has its own unique charm.

In our country, by far the most popular are highland weddings. The first thing that comes to mind when we think of such a wedding is a huge number of guests and a riotous party until morning. It often lasts for several days! Such a wedding cannot, of course, take place without a highland band that knows many folk songs. And on the tables, there must be śliwowica plum brandy, kwaśnica sauerkraut soup and oscypek smoked cheese.

A highland wedding vs a wedding in the mountains

A highland-style wedding is a traditional way of celebrating a marriage in the Karkonosze, the Tatras and other mountain regions of Poland where highlanders live. It is characterised by specific rituals, costumes and dances, as well as original music and dishes prepared especially for the occasion.

The wedding rituals begin with the groom visiting the bride's parents to ask for their consent. Then there is the church ceremony, followed by a reception at home or in a specially prepared hall. A highland wedding features dancers and musicians playing traditional instruments such as the fiddle, bass and dulcimer. Highland dances such as the kujawiak, oberek and krakowiak are danced during the wedding. The table is dominated by traditional highland dishes such as oscypek, bryndza, kwaśnica and black pudding. There is also no shortage of vodka and other drinks, and of the specially prepared wedding crown worn by the bride. A highland wedding is a very solemn and joyful event and a great opportunity to showcase highland traditions and culture.

A wedding in the mountains usually shares only some elements with a typical highland wedding. Most often it is simply given a special atmosphere, highlighted by the amazing views.

A wedding in the mountains – organisation

We need to set something straight, though. Many couples dream of organising a wedding in the mountains, but often give up on their dreams. The main culprit is the fear of not being able to handle organising such a wedding. We can reassure you: there are hardly more formalities than when organising a wedding close to home, and in the 21st century most things can be arranged online.

The Tatras and the surrounding area are full of wedding venues to suit every budget and type of reception. The possibilities are truly unlimited – you can get married in a small wooden church and then invite your closest family and friends to lunch. Another fantastic option is an outdoor ceremony and reception – you can get married in a meadow or a beautiful garden and hold the reception in a marquee. Of course, those who dream of a traditional wedding in the mountainswill not be disappointed either.

There is a belief that wedding in the mountains is best organised in winter. Of course, this is an ideal time for this type of wedding, but it is worth remembering that it has its unique atmosphere if it snows on your chosen date – and, as we all know, snow in winter is never guaranteed. So the couple should not limit themselves to winter, because, as everyone knows, the mountains are beautiful in every season!

In our opinion – regardless of the weather, the distance to travel or any other reason – it is worth choosing wedding in the mountains. The mountain views will enchant everyone. You certainly will not regret this choice. Your dream wedding will be a success and the party will last until dawn. Discover our offer and Book your date now!
