You're getting married! The first two questions that usually come to the couple's minds are “when?” and “where?”. Sometimes the answers are linked. Couples sometimes make their wedding date depend on the availability of their dream venue. At this point another idea may come up: what about an outdoor wedding?
Hands up, every future bride who imagined her wedding taking place outdoors, among flowers, with guests in beautiful outfits strolling along garden paths and, in the background, atmospheric ceremony music – violin or another romantic instrument. A picture straight out of a fairy tale, or at least a film set. Organising an outdoor wedding is, however, an increasingly common idea among couples. When planning, you need to be aware that there are two sides to the coin. The first – the fairy-tale one, which speaks of the advantages of such an undertaking – and the second, less wonderful one, which encourages you to prepare for possible inconveniences and find effective solutions. Let's start with the positives.
Advantages of an outdoor wedding
An outdoor wedding is usually a dream come true for the couple. It is impossible to deny how special such an event is. Dancing under the open sky or among the tulle drapes of a special marquee, and food that simply tastes different in the fresh air. And in the evening – the chance to watch the sunset and see the starry night sky!Such a setting makes for fantastic photos and videos. A good photographer will capture golden-hour moments on the faces of happy guests and the couple. What's more, there is a good chance you can do the wedding photo session outdoors right away.
If you choose the same outdoor location for the ceremony and reception, you will not need to organise transport for guests, for whom an outdoor wedding may be a very interesting and new experience.
Disadvantages of an outdoor reception
The main downside is the cost. There is no denying that organising an outdoor wedding is quite expensive. A registrar receives an additional fee for conducting an outdoor ceremony. On the other hand, asking a priest for an outdoor wedding requires special permission from the bishop and is often far from easy.
The second disadvantage is the weather. We usually plan the wedding date so long before we can check the weather forecast that we need to prepare for various eventualities. Both extreme heat and heavy rain will make such a celebration harder to organise. Natural conditions also mean mosquitoes, wasps and other insects that can disrupt the wedding. Other uninvited guests may include random beachgoers or tourists who happen to be at the venue and may not quite blend into the atmosphere of an elegant wedding.
An outdoor wedding has its pros and cons. Those for whom it is a big dream will certainly have plenty of ideas for dealing with the difficulties that may, but do not have to, accompany such an undertaking.
