What questions to ask a DJ before signing a contract?

In the whirlwind of wedding preparations, one of the important items on the to-do list is a conversation with your wedding DJ. This is the person who will be responsible for the musical side of your reception and for your guests having a good time. So if you want to feel that everything is buttoned up, it is worth making one more list – one with questions to ask the DJ before signing the contract. Here is what it could look like.

1. What kind of music will you play at our wedding?

Agreeing on the repertoire is key. On the one hand, the DJ will take into account the couple's preferences, but will also suggest what is popular and what music guests usually enjoy. At this point it is worth checking whether the range of songs is limited or whether changes can be made during the party.

2. How many songs will there be in one set?

Apart from choosing the wedding playlist, it is good to find out what playing style a particular DJ prefers and how long the breaks will be. The amount of music should be perfectly balanced. One set of songs should not tire guests too much, but should not leave them wanting more either.

3. Until what time will you stay at our wedding?

Agreeing on the time frame of the DJ's presence at the wedding is also quite important, because then it will be clear exactly what you are being invoiced for. It is also worth asking about the rate for any “overtime”, i.e. the DJ staying a little longer than originally agreed.

4. Apart from playing music, will you also run the games?

Alongside a good DJ, an experienced MC who encourages guests to join in will also be useful at a wedding. Sometimes we find a DJ who is excellent in both roles at once. It is good to check whether the DJ you have chosen offers such services and whether you can count on them in this respect. Even if the DJ does not provide such attractions, they may work with a particular MC, and together they will make a great duo at your party. This is exactly how we work at Matt Remay Group – DJ and MC is one of the elements of our wedding offer.

5. What is your experience in the industry?

When looking for the right DJ, we usually browse discussion forums for opinions from other clients confirming the experience that we most often see on the DJ's website. However, asking directly about their experience in the industry can show us a slightly wider context. When meeting the DJ, we have the opportunity to watch videos from weddings they have hosted before. Remember that the more experience, the better the DJ is at working with, for example, the wedding photographer.

6. How much will we pay?

The price of a wedding DJ varies greatly. Before signing the contract, make sure you know what amount you will see on the invoice and what it will and will not include.

7. Do you offer any additional paid services?

It is also worth asking about non-standard services you may be interested in that are not covered by a basic contract with the DJ chosen for your wedding. Our offer Matt Remay Group includes, among others, heavy smoke, special lighting, festoon lights and wedding consultations with a professional wedding planner.
