Who is it, and what is it that drives a wedding party to success? It's the MC! Often associated with a man who circles between the tables and the guests dancing on the floor, leading the singing: “Everybody now!..”. Is that what a modern wedding MC looks like? What is their role, and what exactly does an MC do during the wedding?

First, let's find out what the word MC (wodzirej) means. If we look it up in dictionaries, we find the explanation that it is a person who leads dances, dance routines or processions at various parties. In other words, it is the leader of the party, thanks to whom the other guests know how to have fun.

A modern MC is a creative person who knows the specifics of a wedding, has experience in encouraging guests onto the dance floor and can arrange interesting games. The MC announces the next stages of the wedding party: hot meals, the moments for congratulations, thanks, special attractions and everything else planned for that particular wedding.

A person with two faces

A good wedding party is undoubtedly linked to good music. That is why there is sometimes no difference between the DJ and the MC, because one person plays both roles. The DJ announces what will be played and why, shares anecdotes before each musical part begins and raises toasts to the couple. And, of course, they look after the music. That is quite a lot for one person in one evening, so you have to accept that a DJ playing a double role will first focus on the music, and running the wedding games will be an additional task.

Today the preference is rather for a well-matched duo: a DJ and a host who takes on the role of leader and entertainer. This arrangement proves optimal, because both the music and the MC's part get the right amount of attention.

How much does a wedding MC cost?

Prices for a DJ and MC at a wedding really vary. On the market you can find beginners in the industry, who are also the cheapest. The higher the price, the more you can expect not only greater experience in running this type of party, but also better equipment. From about PLN 3,500 upwards you will find reasonably sensible offers. Remember, though, that the best are also the most expensive. Higher rates may also indicate that two people will be responsible for the service: a DJ and an MC. It is always worth asking about this at the start.
